A medieval fastfood

One of the element that i really appreciate when i travel around the world, is to discoverthe most typical food they have and try to taste it. One month ago I went to the first fast food ever created in Europe and perhaps the oldest continuosausage-kitchen-regensburg-16.jpgusly open public restaurant in the world. I’m speaking about the historical sausage kitchen located in Regensburg. This news was so incredible for me, i never thought it was in Germany. This city is located one hundred twenty five kilometers north of Munich, and it’s a medieval town situated at the confluence of three rivers —the Danube, Naab and Regen.

This old restaurant serves 6,000 sausages to guests every day. Sausages are the main dish on the menu and come in portions of six, eight or ten, along with sauerkraut and mustard. Renowned Bavarian dishes such as Franconian “Saure Zipfl”, “Krautwickerl” and “Sauerbraten”. It was a really cold day but sitting inside of the kitchen we were enveloped in the most warm and bayerische atmosphere possible. For the first time in my life i tried the famous sauerkraut and mustard and now i really love them. Obviously all this food must be accompanied by a refreshing beer, and I did.
The rarity of this place is about its fantastic position. It is in the middle of a square just in front of the river Danube. I think that during the summer season it is fantastic sitting out and appreciating the beauty and peace of the river.
